A sedentary lifestyle can be very dangerous. It’s bad for the heart, and it can lead to people putting on weight rather quickly. Even though the truck is constantly moving, working as a trucker is a sit down type of job for the most part. Some drivers might be in charge of loading and unloading the truck, but there are often others tasked with this job. How can a big truck driver who spends hours on the road stay healthy and in shape? It might not be easy, but it is possible. Here are some tips that can help you.

Try to Eat Healthy As A Big Truck Driver

This is one of the most difficult prospects, simply because finding healthy options at many truck stops and fast food places is difficult. Too often, truckers end up with a diet that consists mainly of fast food meals, candy bars, coffee, and beef jerky. Try your best to avoid fast food. Make note of grocery stores in the areas where you will be stopping, and pick up some fresh fruit, salads, and healthier options that you can take on the road with you. The occasional meal at a fast food joint is fine, but you do not want to overdo it.

Make Time for Exercise

You will not be driving all day. You have off time, and you should use at least half an hour of this time each day to get in some exercise. You can do something simple, such as go for a walk or a jog. Bring some small and portable exercise equipment with you that you can use in your big truck, or in a motel room. Keep in mind that you can do some simple squats, pushups, and sit-ups in a park, for example. There are always some ways to exercise if you are willing to find them.

Wash Your Hands

As a big truck driver, you are in and out of businesses, diners, gas stations and more all the time. Having contact with so many other people means that you are at a higher risk of getting sick on the road is no fun. Wash your hands often, and make sure you take vitamins to help supplement nutrients that you might not always be getting from food.
